History

It started over coffee.

In the fall of 2008, a few friends (McGill law students mostly, but also a professor and a the manager of a local band) met in Keith Serry`s living room.  The goal was to try and harness Montreal’s legal talent to help spur Montreals amazing artistic community.

Over time, CJAM was born, Keith and Olivier Plessis were named co-directors and the goal evolved into the establishment of a full-time artists legal clinic.

CJAM had its first general volunteers meeting in March 2009 and since then we`ve been focused on spreading the word and building infrastructure. CJAM was officially incorporated as a non-profit organization in August 2009.

On November 27th 2009 we will begin delivering our first “live” pro-bono legal services.  Our launch event will also allow us to reveal the first parts of our workshop calendar and to present our fully- updated website.

Our team is highly motivated to continue filling this page as the clinic continues to achieve its goals.  Interested in helping us fill the page?  Contact our volunteer coordinator.
