As an organization dedicated to making Montreal a better, more vibrant and more inspiring place to live, the Clinique juridique des artistes de Montréal (CJAM) believes:
- entrepreneurship is at the heart of what will make artists successful in the 21st century;
- artists and aspiring artists face countless barriers to being successful that have nothing to do with their trade;
- some of these barriers faced by artists and aspiring artists are legal in nature;
- legal help is often too expensive or inaccessible for developing artists;
- artists and aspiring artists with access to accurate legal information and skills are more likely to be successful in their craft;
- a more artistic Montreal benefits all Montrealers.
Therefore, CJAM seeks to establish a free legal information clinic in the city of Montreal, province of Quebec, for impoverished artists and aspiring artists who cannot afford for-hire legal services. CJAM will seek to provide them with the information and skills necessary to be successful entrepreneurs by carrying on four services:
- Publishing legal information on arts-related issues;
- Providing legal information to poor artists and aspiring arists on arts-related issues;
- Giving workshops to artists and arts organizations on legal issues affecting their trade;
- Educating Montreal residents about legal issues impacting the work of Montreal artists.
